Conversion And Cross Platform

Conversion And Cross Platform

2002-02-16 by thetourists2000

I've converted my Roland and EMU CD roms to .EXS+.WAV , using
CDXtract on a friend's Windows PC. Now I'm trying to play the sounds
in my EXS24 on a MAC. I've placed the .EXS files in the Sampler
Instrument folder along with the corresponding .WAV samples and that
didn't work. While leaving the .EXS files in the Sampler Instrument
folder, I then tried the .WAV files in the EXSamples folder, the
SoundFont Samples folder and finally, the AKAI Samples folder. Still
no sound. I've noticed that the files for sounds that are working in
my EXS are all lower case. (.exs and .aif or .wav)The files that were
created on the PC with CDXtract are all upper case. (.EXS and.WAV) Is
it possible get these sounds working in my EXS24?
      Thanks, Robert

All the banks I´ve converted with cdxtract use lowercase letters. So
are all my *.exs files. The audio files from Akaipro are uppercase
*.WAV and they work. So maybe if you do a rename file in exs editor
and give the files the same name and put them in the same folder, let
them overwrite the uppercase *.EXS files and it will probably create
new lowercased files. Just a guess. Hope you understand what I mean.

We also have a article we put in our Help file and web site that is a
complete primer on moving EXS stuff done on the PC to the Mac.

See www.chickensys.com/translator/exs24/moving.html

I don't believe the EXS is case-sensitive - it shouldn't be, according to
common file name rules. But if long-file-names are not being recognized on
the Mac (due to Joliet not being supported) that may be the issue.

The important thing to remember is - the file name, aside from case
sensitivity, needs to be EXACTLY what it is on the Mac as it is on the PC.
