Greyed out file selection

Greyed out file selection

2002-02-25 by John Russell

I've noticed that some of my samples, Wavs I think, are greyed out in
the file selector Aifs, on the other hand are selectable.

How do I change this state of affairs?

Sorry,

On a Mac, in Logic inside the file selector for EXS but I notice the
same is true in Battery and other apps that use file types.

Funny - WAV's work here on my Mac. Maybe the sample frequency of your
wav files is too low......
Try a 44.1 Khz wav file for interest.

No, its as if the wav files are not acceptable files for the app ie
EXS. A bit like if you were to look at a wav file in a Word doc folder.
Docs are highlighted but the wav would be greyed out.

Its probably to do with file associations or something. Wavs have a
Quicktime icon on my Mac. Could that be anything to do with it?

They should be read natively on the system. Macs do not consider WAVs to be
PC files. There readily recognized typically. I suggest reinstalling your
operating system. I suspect you're missing some essential component of the
OS. I've never encountered this in my years of Mac tech support.

The icon simply relates to the file _creator_ and this shouldn't make
any difference at all. For example, if I use SoundApp to convert an
AIFF file to WAV, it will have a unique icon that comes from SoundApp.

Lots of wav files have quicktime icons here too.....

What version of Logic are you using?

Regards - Colin

PS - did you actually check the sample rate? A low sample rate WILL
make files unacceptable and greyed-out.

RE: [exs] Greyed out file selection

I feel a little foolish over this.

I was looking in two apps that have sophisticated file selectors,
Battery and EXS24. The kind where you can select a bunch of files and
add the lot to a file selector to load many samples in at the same time.
In Battery, those already assigned to a kit dont show up in the file
selector, In EXS even though Ive done this many times, I was looking at
the wrong file selector for importing samples. It was simply a question
of the wrong file type for the wrong file selector.

Pilot error!

My apologies.
