Disk Image of Akai Sample CDs

Disk Image of Akai Sample CDs

2002-03-18 by David Payant

Hello

There has been some talk about how to convert akai samples to exs format for
quick import through the sampler. Does anybody know how to make a disk image
of an akai sample cd ? Disk Copy doesn't seem to work and ShrinkWrap cannot
find my disc. Any ideas?!?

David

I had a few answers to a question about using multi format (audio+akai)
cds -by making a disk image of the akai bit and burning it with toast -
a couple of weeks back which i have tried out but...perhaps i am
missing something (like a full compliment of brain cells)

1) CD driver ver 1.39 - makes no difference - still won't mount
2) Disk Copy - where can i find this?
3) Can Toast make a disk image from such a disc?

Many thanks

Mike

Ok.

Astarte make ist. Try google. I have a feeling it may be discontinued. If
so, try hotline or something.

Yes. I think its mentioned in the manual how to do it.

1) Open Logic
2) Open Akai Import
3) Put in the Akai CD-Rom
4) Open Toast
5) Make a device Copy (Gerätekopie in deutsch)

The other way is to open the CD with Astarte CD-Copy and then make the
device copy with toast

For better work with EXS:
Convert the whole Akai CD using Logic. Before that make an Alias of a Folder
where your Samples should be after converting. Put this Alias in the program
Folder of Logic and rename it to "AKAI Samples". Now you can burn a normal
data disk with tost, where all your aif-files are. The exs instruments you
can leave in the Sampler Instruments Folder in the program directory of
Logic. Now you have to enable the cd-rom or dvd drive in the exs
preferences.
If you now want to use the instrument you have to insert the disk.
Hope this will help you

I think I'm reading your question correctly.

Use your CD Burner to read the Akai files. I had the same problem, and the
easiest thing was to open the EXS editor, hit Akai convert and load the
mixed-media Akai CD in my (Que! Firewire) burner, which ignored the audio
bits, voila. I tried the other suggestions on this list, short of getting
more software, and they didn't happen for me, but this works.
