To answer the original question, usually the third party convertors like
CDXtract or
Translator does a better job than the internal convertor, why ? just because
it's our
main business and the core of our products while Emagic main task is to make
their
sampler works flawlessly which is really a hard one. CDXtract is used by
thousands
of users worlwide and it has been tested on a huge number of CD-ROM of all
formats.
For example the Company SampleHeads has used CDXtract to convert all their
Akai CD-ROMs to the soundfont format, each converted file has been tested to
make sure it's as close as possible to the original Akai program. During
this process
I worked very closely with the SampleHead team and they help me solved a
couple of issues very hard to detect. Some of these issues are not solved by
any
other convertors wether it's internal or third party. Don't get me wrong, I
don't
pretend to have a 100% perfect conversion software, the conversion stuff is
a very difficult task and they are so many different sound banks on the
market
that it's impossible to test them all. But each time a user reports a
problem
I do my best to fix it and so far I have'nt found any problem that I was
unable
to fix. So please, next time one of you guys has a conversion problem with
CDXtract please report it to me directly with the name of the CD and the
name of the program. I don't care if you are a registered user or not, I
will
solve that problem anyway.
>The other bonus is that I have some Roland CD-Roms as well as some E-mu
CD-Roms

Well CDXtract converts Roland and EMU CD-ROMs too, it has the exact
Roland deemphasis filter for a while and the latest update 3.6r5 handle all
kinds
of loops even alternate and desynchronized. I made a lot of demo of the Mac
version during the MusikMesse and people were very impressed by the
realtime playback of Roland loops. The "Distorded Reality" disc is a very
good example for that purpose.
