OT Evoc 20 question

OT Evoc 20 question

2002-04-22 by Jon Esler

Hi everybody, I've tried posting this on the Logic Users group a couple of
times but my posts don't seem to go through over there, maybe someone here
can help me. I installed the Version 5 upgrade last night but have yet to
get the Evoc 20 working successfully. I'm trying to trigger it using an
existing audio track. So far I've tried selecting the audio track I want to
use from the Side Chain pull down but that didn't work. Anybody know how to
do this? Is there any documentation on how to use this thing anywhere?
I've tried Infoweb and the archives to this list and of course the Emagic
website without any luck. Thanks for any help, Jon Esler

you do realise you have to play your midi keyboard at the same
time?

To use EVOC built-in synth, open the EVOC instrument, choose a preset with a
side chain. At the top of the EVOC window, set the side chain to an existing
vocal track.

To use another virtual synth or external synth on a monitor input, open the
EVOC filter as an insert on the synth track. Select a preset and choose a
side chain vocal track.

It's hard to be more descriptive than this. You'll have to mess around to
get the results you want. But if this doesn't get you started, you'd best
leave it be. It's not the most intuitive thing, but if you mess around until
you know what each knob is doing, you start to get a feel for it. -Jer

Actually, I just discovered what it was that I originally wanted to do.
The Evoc shows up in 3 separate instances, once as an Audio Inst. plugin and
twice in the regular plugins menu as a filter. I wanted to use it as an
effect to be applied to a pre-recorded vocal so the filter version is what I
was looking for. But I didn¹t realize till posting here that it can also be
a performance oriented tool like a Talk Box via the audio instr. version.
This things gonna be a total gas!

when i installed my v5 update (mac) i was given the option of
connecting to the net and automatically updating to v5.0.1.
if i didnt want to update there and then i was told that i could run
the installer again and download later. i was unsure about
re-installing but when i did the install just zipped through the
process recognising that i already had all the v5 components
and then up popped the v5.0.1 download box.

you may want to attempt a re-install like this, but dont blame me
if there are any problems!

btw, v5.0.1 has the es2 (by far the best soft synth ive seen yet)
and the evoc.

Hi!
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the donwloaded file from Emagic web during the instalation has anything to do with 5.0 or 5.01., but it's a file with option for harddisk steaming samples in EXS24.

I read somewhere that 5.01 is the second original CD print from Emagic and the only different from 5.0 is demos of EVOC & ES2. I don't think you can download that from Emagic.

you could be right. my copy of the v5 arrived only days ago.
seems a bit odd though, i already had the exs streaming option
in 4.8.1(downloaded from the emagic support pages)

Ahh, I see. 5.1 ships with Logic Control. My mistake. 5.1 features time
limited ES2 & EVOC. -Jer
