EXS:

Not good for live shows (latency). Input latency is a bit of a bother. I
have to quantize everything. If I'm going for real feel, I have to play
another (outboard) keyboard, then reassign to the EXS. Because playback is
tighter-than-tight, it's no longer a problem at that point. Generally,
though, I don't have to do that since I usually quantize everything anyway.
This really doesn't slow me down at all.

Playback is a dream--impeccable timing (sample accurate). Notes triggered at
the same time will not even flange--they just get louder. Any playback
latency has everything to do with your CPU and soundcard. As far as the EXS
goes, it doesn't get any better.

I love it. Some folks complain about the fact that wave form is globally
controlled (one for all samples in a program) and also about the fact that
you can't insert an effect per sample (you can per program/instrument of
course), but these issues pale to the benefits that the EXS offers. I will
never use my ASR-10 again.

Good point. If you really wanted to you could get an Apple PowerBook with a
Magma PCI expander and install a Hammerfall into that, to get the
performance capability of a tower in a mobile machine (without the G4 chip,
but a G4 laptop should be out this year). The magma runs between $600-$800
and can be found at http://www.Sweetwater.com. Members of NIN use them with
ProTools hardware in their hotel rooms while on tour.

And, your right Joeri. 1.5 on input is very nice.

??? With a Hammerfall card, you have latency down to 1.5ms. For me, that's low
enough to play fine. :-)
On the other hand: I would NOT recommend a computer setup for live performances
in any situation! Too many things can go wrong.
