Included instruments?

Included instruments?

2002-06-06 by Sumit Das

LAM 5.x comes with about 10 or so instruments for EXS-24. If I get the real (non-demo)
version of EXS-24, does it come with any more instruments or samples? It seems like
a pretty paltry selection otherwise.

Thanks, smeet

Can anyone tell me if there is a demo version out there for the EXS24? I'd like to take
it for a test drive before I purchase it. I'm actually leaning towards Reason, but I'd
like to give the EXS24 a chance before I decide.

Any information would be appreciated.

GROOVE ON!!!

This is what things were like before Logic 5:
You purchased the EXS and got a CD with it. This CD was used for
installation an there were a bunch of instruments on it as well - actually
some more instruments than the ones coming with LA5 and the "included" EXS
demo.
After registering for the EXS you were getting a second CD, containing only
EXS instruments made by Wizoo.
And while we may discuss about the general quality (IMO: in general somewhat
mediocre but sometimes useful, but some instruments even were kinda nice), I
have no clue whether that procedure has changed, due to the different
authorization approach coming along with LA 5. But I'd think after
registering you will still get your additional EXS instruments CD.
I hardly use any of those patches though, I found better soundfonts on the
web, converted the few AKAIs that I own and/or was mostly creating or
modifying my own patches.

Regards,
Sascha

The package comes with a CD with EXS programs, and after registering
you're supposed to receive another CD (which I'm still waiting for,
just as my type-A codes, but that's another story).

Contents of the 1st CD:

B3 Slow-Fast.exs
CCLoopz.exs
Clean Guitar.exs
DiscoBaz.exs
EXS 808.exs
Finger Bass.exs
FM Piano.exs
HHLoopz.exs
Plucc.exs
Slap Bass.exs
Steel String.exs
Stereo Drums.exs
Stereo Grand.exs
Stereo Strings.exs
Strings+Grand.exs
Suitcase.exs
Ultimate.exs
WarmPad.exs

Decent but not shocking...

Reason and the EXS are 2 very different beasts imo. And if you
upgrade to LA5 you get a 28-day demo for all Emagic instruments. For
LA4 there's no EXS-demo as far as I know.

Yeah... right... :)

As Hendrick says, the EXS24 and Reason are very different
creatures. I've used both. Reason feels like a toy to me. I use it
when I want a lo-fi or electronic-type sound, not for my "serious"
work. That is to say, while Reason is fun to play with, the EXS
fundamentally changed the way I work.

On the other hand, EXS24 is not a one-stop solution in the way
that Reason is. Reason has the sampler, synth, loop player,
effects processor, etc. EXS is just a sampler--a sampler much
better than Reason's built in sampler, but a sampler
nonetheless.

I don't know of any software demo, but there's an MP3 demo on
Emagic's product info page:
http://www.emagic.de/english/products/instruments/exs24.html.

Hope that helps.
