where can I buy yellow tools in the US?

where can I buy yellow tools in the US?

2002-06-23 by chmedly

After reading some old posts I think I might want to buy 'Pure
Drums', but I can't seem to find any links to a US online retailer.
I'm particularly interested in that fact that there is an EXS version
of it. Are there any other (perhaps more recent) drum sample
cds out that work great with the EXS? I'm not really looking for
loops but complete sets to play with an octapad. thanks

I'd be interested to get any ones reaction about the "sound" of these kits.
The MP3 demo is about as lame as you could get and if the last example is
their idea of a "Rock Kit" then they are living on a different planet to me
and the rest of the world.
There are some old work horse type drum CD's around that sound better than
this demo. The Clearmountain discs come to mind. Actually if you don't mind
a bit of work you would be better off with "Ross Garfield The Drum Doctor
Does Drums" 1+2. Loads of good solid kicks and snares and everything else
you would need to make up some great sounding kits.
Remember, anyone can set up a kit and record some hits.....and there is a
lot of crap getting around just like that. You want drums that have been
recorded at good studios using a variety of the best microphones, mic pre's
and compressors. I wouldn't settle for less just because of the convenience
of the EXS format.

I purchased Pure Drums for EXS (even though I own Translator and
could have translated the Akai version with that or EXS) about six
months ago, and I wholeheartedly recommend this set. I have tried
other good drum kits, including the fine Clearmountain sets, to put
this in context.

The Pure Drums sets are very responsive, natural and dynamic (each
kit has no fewer than 44 snare samples!), whether I play them from
my keyboard or my Yamaha DD-50. They sound like well recorded kits.
Downsides: you can't mix 'n match instruments between kits (without
opening another EXS), and only one mikeing technique per set. The
July Electronic Musician magazine has a review.

I have been composing songs using one of the kits in one EXS,
usually bolstered by one silver compressor and silver reverb room.
When it comes time to mix, I split/demix to channel, go to Audio
Configuration to copy that EXS to each instrument, and fly with EXS
filters, different effects/compression, experiment with a different
snare or hat sample if I want... a fairly efficient and creative
work flow.

Most "reviews" that I've read have been very positive. What I want
to do is use these sample to play parts in to flesh out
arrangements. In most cases I'll have some "real" drummers
come in and play the parts on real sets. So, I don't necessarilly
need the greatest kits but I think I do want a few more variations
than what came with the exs. And I'd rather not spend a bunch of
time making other sample sets into exs instruments. Not at this
point anyway. Thanks btw to whoever posted the link for where
to buy it.
