apple - pc - convertion - probs

2002-07-03 by Peter *

hi all,
i just downloaded a lot of zipped exs-samples on my office-pc. opened the
files and burned them on cd-rom (joilet-format). copied the files on my
studio apple G4 and then in the standard exs-folder. between both systems
the names of the files have changed (~???) and exs is not able to open the
samples. does someone know what to do ? is there a prg that converts the
samplenames in full length ?
thanx for a fast reply
peter from germany

Try with the UDF format.

I know there were other answers to your question, but I think you did one
part of the equation but not the other. Apple (amazingly) does not read
Joliet format natively; you need an extension. Go to www.tempel.org for a
free one - he also sells a shareware one.

Once you get the extension, the file names will correct themselves and when
you copy them to the hard drive, the names should be intact and EXS will
load them happily. (Of course, it'll have to find them the first time, but
after that you'll be happy.)

Make sure that Mac file names are allowed on the burn. It's an option in
Toast.

When you burn Joliet on a Mac, there's an option to use Mac names. You must
check this off for the burn to work correctly. Otherwise it abridges the
names to 8 characters. That's all you have to do. It will still be readable
on a Mac or PC. Just activate the option!!! I do this all the time.
