Thank you for all the practical advice.
I tried everything, and then substituted the USB cables for the 
possibility that one was damaged via USB hub etc.
Looks like the obvious - damaged cable.
Fixed, and even the LucyTuned samples will play now.
Duh!!!!

I also have a EMI 2/6 and I get a horrible high pitched hum out of the 
analog outs...anybody else have this problem. I know they offer a seperate 
power source, would this make a difference?

Hello Jeffrey. I had the same problem as you, so I 
traded mine in for a Delta 1010. That said, other 
users have reported success in eliminating this 
high frequency by using a power supply. Emagic 
really should have included one in their package - 
no one can afford this kind of bad publicity (how 
did they let this one slip?).
