IMHO, the damage has been done. With Apple's "Switch" program and their
initial decision to drop PC development of Logic Audio, I don't believe that a
reverse decision will last long-term. Even though they may continue
development, it would only be a matter of time before they would decide to drop
it again (ie when they've convinced enough LAWyers to switch to LAM.
Ultimately, they do want people on the Mac, not running Windows PC's. I can't
help but think that at some point, more features will be implemented in LAM
that won't make it into LAW. This may make it harder to collaborate with other
people and require special workarounds.

I, for one, will be deciding on my future sequencer platform as if PC
development is completely dropped. By the time the next paid upgrade for Logic
Audio comes around, I'll be deciding whether I'm switching to a Mac and LAM or
if I am going Cubase SX. In the meantime, I'll probably pick up a copy of
Cubase SX anyway and begin playing around with it. If I go Cubase, I'll miss
the exs-24 quite a bit. There are some interface quirks and it could be a bit
more flexible (to more accurately import some hardware sampler's banks like E-
mu and Roland) but it is very CPU efficient, loads sample programs quickly and
works extremely well for sounds not requiring a lot of synthesis. I use it
mainly for drums and bass sounds although I do also use it for some guitars and
orchestral instruments as well.

Anyway, sorry to ramble a bit. I have appreciated a lot of the thoughtful and
non-inflammatory posting lately as well.

I hope you sent that to the LUG list as well! :-)

I agree...

... but if the ghosts of rumours about OS X for PC turn into reality...(!!!)...

... many Logic-to-SX convertees will be glad Steinberg let them keep Logic!

... (and Apple would probably start selling expensive, high-quality,
innovative Intel/AMD-powered boxes.)

Just my AU$0.04 (= US$0.02)

You could try public relations. It's as good a place as any I guess. It
least it's high up the chain and might get their attention. I got this list
on the Apple web site accompanying one of the articles... lfox@...

You might include concern for the valid points made to this list by
Fernstudio. It is important that support for both platforms be specific. I
recommend underscoring the need for cross-platform compatibility, the
importance of collaboration, and equal speed of development. Enhancements to
the Mac version shouldn't make it impossible to port a song to the PC and
visa versa.

My dream would be dual support and development with major strides made on
the Mac in OSX to compete with the faster processing speed of the the Athlon
and Intel chips, without compromising cross-platform synchronicity and
function... faster MIDI, more efficient DSP management, etc. These are all
things that could be improved on the Mac without destroying cross-platform
compatibility.

I'm not a list member. Pass it on.
