Heya

Check out the message Ned Bouhalassa wrote here about 5 hours before you

I would like to hear the listers opinions on the best orchestral
collections: mainly strings, but woodwinds as well. Expense is a
concern...ideally I could buy what I need by selling the Proteus/2.
  Thanks!
I think going with EXS24 instead is a good idea, but have you checked
the resale value on the Proteus/2? I have one I want
to sell too, and it's pretty sad how cheap they are these days...

Yes, I saw it after I sent my email. Sounds pretty amazing. It's not
available yet, is it? What is the price? Out of my range, I suspect :-)

I am not trying to recreate an orchestra, rather, be able to add some
orchestral parts and sections to mainly pop or film stuff. Is there a good
compromise collection that works well with the EXS24 for a few hundred
dollars? Or am I better off with my Proteus/2?

Thanks fpr the feedback!

Markus

Yes. No where close to what I paid for the Proteus/2. Seem to be going for
around 100-120. But how much are some of the better orchestral collections
for EXS24?

Bad news Markus, they're all expensive. Composers expect a lot these days
in terms of quality, and that comes at a cost (time + recording gear +
musicians + editing = mucho expenses). The problem, if it is one, is that
the clientele is made up of working composers who can afford to spend a few
grand (just like any other small business) to get their sounds.

You can always try the Prosonus Orchestral Collection to start. To check
prices for it and other librairies, visit http://www.soundsonline.com, and
search the word 'orchestral'.

Good luck!

Wasn't there a special EXS version of Siedlaczecks orchestral patches from
Best Service? From what I remember the price was more or less reasonable. No
idea how good they are, maybe nothing for a pure orchestra production.

Sascha

Hi Sascha,

It's only 136 megs! I wouldn't recommend it. Read a review for yourself:

http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/nov00/articles/peter_sample.htm

I still say Prosonus is a better deal...

Ned,
Thanks much for the info. Guess I'll hang on to the Proteus/2 2 a bit
longer and start saving up!
All the best,

Markus

http://www.wizoosounds.com has individual sounds for sale on their site for
$4.95 each - I listened to the chamber strings and such and it sounded
decent to me.
They have all sorts of samples in EXS format and you only buy what you want. Seems like a cool idea to me.

Yeah, thanks for that tip Eric. I love the idea of only buying the samples
you want/need. Sampleheads allows you to do that with Peter Erskine's
Living Drums cd. All sample-cd manufacturers should do that...
