[exs] Too much patches ??? (REPOST, but PLEASE READ)

2002-08-21 by Phil Nad

NOTE: This message has been rebuilt from a few of my
older posts that have never been successfully
answered. These refer to the SAME EXS-24 BUG that I
have experienced on many machines now. Emagic should
consider a turnaround to this problem, if not already?

If anyone has something to say about that, please
let me know!

Thank you guys for your suggestions ( grouping all my
translated sampler CDs (using Chickens Translator)
into categories to avoid lose of the complete listing
of the patches in the EXS-24 ), but I had already
took care of trying to do a smaller startmenu
(grouping the CDs toghether) I.e. ''Loops'' ''Ethnic''
Drum Kits'', etc... containing the related CDs, it
helped me seeing more patches, but that didn't totaly
fix the problem. I forgot to specify that the listing
available always stop to the letter ''D'' ?!? weird!!!

And yes, it was the ''Sampler Instruments'' folder
where I have put the patches during the translation...
I'm sorry, I didn't type the right folder name in my
first message :-|

I also took care of not moving the audio paths after
the translation was done (converting Roland CDs to
EXS-24 patches with Chickens Translator). I have
already experienced the ''long time to load'' thing
because I had moved them before that current setup...
kinda tricky! Note that the startup load time of Logic
is pretty long though, but the patch load is okay when
I'm in the EXS.

Any other ideas about what I shoud do or correct so I
can see all of my patches without using the find
command ? Is Emagic aware that there could possibly
have a patch population limit for the EXS-24 to see?
I need to fix this soon, otherwise I'll go back to my
good old stack of dusty but reliable Roland samplers!
No... I don't want that! I like the EXS for its
integration and ease of use... if only I could see all
my library!

I read somewhere else that there could be a limitation
of about 15,000 patches max. that can be seen by the
EXS-24 (some say it is a Windows limitation). As some
might know, film scoring may require a much bigger
number of patches at hand. My complete library
actually contains more than 30,000. Yes, it's a lot,
but having all these in Logic saves a lot of time of
sampler loading / patch search / reloading / etc...
Please Emagic, find a way to correct this!

Apart from that bug, Emagic have made such great
professional musicians tools! When you think about
that, how much time lose & frustrations have we saved
with their products ? (mabe not everyone, but a lot of
you guys I'm sure!) If some of you who also
experienced
this bug argue on that subject, I'm sure they WILL
notice and try to correct that problem.

Thanx for any help! (& sorry for those long msgs)

Phil.

I have 37,500 instruments.
I cant add any more. if i do I get crashes, Emagic germany says they
can get 40,000 with no crashes, and that there is theoretically no
limit so long as they are no more than four folders deep. By the way
I'm om a mac G4 500.
