Funny you should ask, as I was just in the same situation as you last week.
I had no luck with sample librairies, so I hired a friend who plays great
violin (he can fiddle pretty well). Cost me more for that session than
American Heartland, but at least it sounded authentic! You might try the
Celtic sample library - I've read some good things about its fiddle, but I
haven't actually heard it.

Hi all,

I may recommend the Whole Lotta Country library by Sampleheads. I have not heard it so I cannot comment. However there are some demos online and you can even buy just the soundfonts for them if they are to your liking. Very inexpensive if you're only looking for fiddle samples.

I have to also suggest what another poster recommended and that is to get a live player to play it in for you. There are some instruments that are simply difficult to make sound authentic. I believe that Fiddle is one of them. Oh well, good luck in your search.

HTH,
Fernstudio

Will check Whole Lotta Country out, thanks.

I know it's a tough instrument to get sampled in a usable way. I
keep hoping I'll run into a fiddler who's into the same type of stuff
I want to do....

Fiddling is a different playing style on a traditional violin. Bluegrass,
country, Irish jigs use fiddling. BTW, classical violinists refer to
their 300-year-old $250,000 Italian instruments as fiddles too, when
they want to sound hip and not at all stodgy :-)
