Same Sample - Multiple Regions, Multiple Notes

Same Sample - Multiple Regions, Multiple Notes

2002-09-05 by John Dougherty

Hello Everyone,

Can one instance of the EXS trigger multiple regions of the same audio file on
different notes.

For example, I have a vocal sample that I would like to assign to multiple notes
(no layering), and then change the sample start of each note to different
positions within the vocal sample.

If this can be done, please tell me how. I'm having a hard time figuring this one
out.

Thanks,

John Dougherty

Create several zones that refer to the same sample file. Click in the "E" in
the zone editor, move the start position of the sample. That's it. One file,
multiple trigger points (on different keys in this case).

Easy -- just create a new zone for each region you want and define the start
and end points in the sample editor for that zone. This won't affect the start
and end points for other zones. You can launch the sample editor by clicking on
the little E in the Zone's window.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. It turns out I was doing
things the right way, but when I tried to insert the same audio file
in a different zone, the audio file wasn't listed. This was because
the "filter used" box was ticked. Everything is working as it should
now.

Thanks again,

John Dougherty

No need to even load the sample again and again for each zone, btw, here's
what I do on such occasions (I often load a complete vocal track into the
EXS):

- New zone, load sample, adjust zone (to one key usually).
- CTRL+C.
- CTRL+V.
- Use the "move zone incl. root key" keycommand to move it to the next key
(I have CTRL+arrows defined for that, makes perfect sense to me).
- Press next key once (necessary because the selected zone info box isn't
reflecting the copied zone, even if it looks like, an EXS annoyance/bug
actually).
- Press "E" and adjust away.
- Continue.

This IMO is working faster than with any other softwaresampler - almost like
some "hidden goodie" of the EXS once you tried out the competitors as well
(especially the "move zone" KC).

Regards,
Sascha

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
