Totally agree, SAM horns is a great sounding library and amazing value.
The alternative to decompressing the files on a PC is to use MacPARdeLuxe on
Mac OS X.
See info below from ProjectSAM website:
Installing SAM Horns on a Macintosh
Some of our users won't be using SAM Horns on the PC platform.
Giga-compatible software samplers like EXS, Halion and Kontakt run on both
PC and Macintosh platforms. The sample data on our SAM Horns cdrom has been
packed in .exe self-extracting RAR format. If you don't have a PC around and
would like to directly extract and use the cdrom on a Macintosh, you will
find the following information of use.
The application MacPARdeLuxe, running under OSX, can extract both RAR and
self-extracting .EXE files:

At this moment, MacPARdeLuxe is the only application able to handle RAR 3.0
files. Under OS9, applications like StuffIt Deluxe and MacRAR have yet to be
updated to RAR 3.0.
