Giga has latency issues, because it isn't sample accurate or host integrated like EXS...which is what makes Soft sampler plug-ins so great for groove production and rhythm section stuff. Giga is mainly good as a big playback thing for orchestral samples.....but they are losing a lot of ground to soft samplers. The main reason they are a standard is because of all the libraries programmed for GIGA. (same as it was for Roland and Emu samplers too). But a lot of guys are bailing on GIGA too, it has its place, but it also has tons of limitations too....it's actually pretty old technology....it's just very stable and mature. I think when soft samplers and plug-ins mature more, the GIGA thing is going to look like a dinosaur. (I understand that it is cool now though....but it's mainly the libraries) GIGA=stable, big playback machine EXS/Kontakt/Virtual Instruments= Creative tools, host integration I think next year with the new EXS, Kontakt upgrades and all the stuff happening with VIs is going to change the scene a lot. GIGA development has been really slow since Tascam took over. Also, when Vienna is available for EXS and Kontakt, and other libraries start to port....things will change even more. I think there is no beating good host integration like the EXS has. Assuming that Emagic doesn't screw up that is...... ;-) EP
