EXS24MKII as Wavestation clone?

EXS24MKII as Wavestation clone?

2002-11-21 by Ned Bouhalassa

Speaking of which, here is a little something I just made to give everyone
an idea of the possibilities of controlling zone crossfades with an LFO.
This is a single EXS instrument with 6 zones (or samples in this case) :

Don't worry, it's not a big file (700k).

Very, very cool features now.

Re: [exs] EXS24MKII as Wavestation clone?

Sorry Sascha, can't do that. I've got some Quantum Leap Rare sample in
there, along with a Garritan strings, and Post accordion. The vibe is
Eli's, though!

Here's one way to do it:

- load up a bunch of wav or aiff samples (maybe a variety of looped and
non-looped material)
- give them the same key ranges
- adjacent but different velocity ranges (like 1-15, 16-30, 31-50, etc)
- set crossfade length to, say, 40%
- send LFO 1 to Sample select (remember to move the triangle level to more
than 0)
- adjust LFO to a speed under 300 ms
- play a note!

For extra fun, pan a couple of the zones (or samples) hard left and right.
Remember, you won't hear the wavesequence effect if your samples are all
short or unlooped. Don't be shy to experiment with a variety of settings.
I'm just scratching the surface here. I can't wait to see what people
program (wavestation-like synthesizer instruments anyone?) with this new
sampler!
