Controlling EXS II

Controlling EXS II

2002-12-04 by Nick Batzdorf

Okay, so now that the EXS II has all these control routings, how yawl
been setting it up so you can control dynamics and brightness while
playing it? Just doing a little research to save myself some time.

I want to set this up for breath control, and I'm trying to decide
the best way to do it (whether to set up an Environment transformer
or reprogram all the sounds). Controller 7 (volume) doesn't work well
with a breath controller, since it goes down all the way when you
stop blowing.

Expression?

Wouldn't expression also suffer from the "down to zero" problem?
Anyway, why not set up a transformer in front of the EXS, with the
Operations -2- parameter set to "Scale". You get two tweakable
values -- multiplication and addition -- that together allow you to
create a slope that takes 0-127 (input) into e.g. 40-127, or whatever
else you like. This gets rid of the 'down to zero' thing.
