EXS playback missing odd events

EXS playback missing odd events

2001-02-20 by guy@txaro.com

Hello!

I've only been working with the EXS24 seriously for three or four
weeks, and am generally very happy with it (apart of course from the
problems with Akai sample conversions etc) but there's one problem
which has cropped up several times.

Say that I've got a drum track set up with 3 minutes of hi-hats
playing 16th notes. The chances are that between three and five of
those notes will not be triggered on playback. If I try again, it
will probably miss a similar number, although not the same ones.
These are all the same velocity etc, and play back perfectly using
external drum machines etc, so it's not a velocity setting issue.
Neither is it to do with exceeding voice allocation because it
happens with just one track playing back as well as with a more
intricate set-up.

Whilst I can cope with this for my own recordings, until I get to the
bottom of this I don't feel that I can use the EXS24 for commercial
paying sessions.

Has anyone else had this problem, or has anyone any suggestions as to
what the problem might be?

Best wishes from London

Gy

EXS playback missing odd events

//

that's what i have been saying all the time!!!!!!!!!

try adding a little and a little more pitch bend or controller data and
there are even more notes missing. this is not a fault of my system or
yours... its not a bug it a feature?

simply: the exs or any other audio instument in logic is not capable of
handling too many events...forget sample accurate timing if its for every
other note!!!!!

4.7 will hopefully fix this!

cheers.
fz.

//i am glad there is three of us now, that actually face this problem.

I'm sorry you all are struggling with this. I do want to point out that I
have had no problems similar to this at any time. I mention this only to
alert you that something is amiss, and you should be getting much more out
of the software. Do not settle for less than what most of us take for
granted. Your EXS should not be dropping any notes. Mine never has and I
often have 4 to 8 instruments in use at once--and all on a G3-400 Mac, which
of course isn't nearly as powerful as the Dual-chip G4s. ...So stay in
pursuit of a solution. When the EXS is functioning normally, it's very
dependable. Start nagging the Emagic support lines until they give you some
real answers. Ask for the head tech who works in your platform of choice
(Mac or PC).

Best Wishes,
Jer

it doesn't matter the number of instances opened. it also doesn't matter the
load on the CPU it seems to be a problem of the architecture.

i checked with:
mac-av/motu2408/digi001

on:
wallstreet/g4,400/g4,500

everytime the same problem.

i explained a test a few posts ago, try it.

in hope to get this fixed,
fz.

if it DOES happen, you will notice.there is a clear dropout if for example a
bar of 32th notes get played and there are some missing. its very
"noticeable"

taking in accout what i mentioned, i'm convinced it's logic.

i experience the same thing on many different systems (all MAC) using
diverent interfaces and different drivers. than using a simple VST
instrument like neon to test on cubase**... no problem using the same divers
and i/o. so i assume it is the way logic handles audio instruments.

i am very positive that this will be fixed with 4.7.
it would be very positive as well to have emagic comment on this!
please.

**please: its not about a logic-steinberg thing! i just try to pin down the
problem that has cost me days and nights this winter. i love logic!

No offense, but I disagree. Perhaps it's a setting or something else amiss.
But too many people, including myself, have no problems of this nature.
