Advise needed about memory allocation

Advise needed about memory allocation

2001-02-25 by Lee Jones

Hiya you lot
I'm having trouble.
Recently I upped to OS 9.1 and also fitted a Gina card and also added
another 128meg of ram. I now have 288 meg of ram. Adequate I feel.
Now to my problem. I have found that I can do less now than I could before.
I expected the ram to enable a few more bits of processing before tedious
bouncing down. I am using the EXS for all my drums and sometimes a loop, no
different to before, but I seem to be able to do less. I was advised that
the Gina card would ease the pressure on my processor (G3 300) it seems to
be exactly the same if not a little worse. Also the EXS through the Gina
often ends up distorting the sounds although they are not overloading in the
object.
So any ideas. I need to know what memory allocation you are all using. I
have allowed 32meg and I have no idea what would be the best balance.
Peace
Lee

Set your memory to 50MB of RAM. MAKE SURE VIRTUAL MEMORY IS OFF IN THE
CONTROL PANELS. This will only slow down your Mac (not recommended if you
have less than 128 MB of RAM / the more the better). Virtual memory (on Macs
or PCs) uses the hard disc to mimic more physical memory. The added time
this takes slows down performance. Make sure you are using ASIO drivers if
available. You should not at any time change your Mac's general sound I/O
from MacAV in the control panels. Doing so will conflict with the drivers as
they are set in Logic. For example I use the VXPocket for a Powerbook (Mac),
my Control Panel's sound is set to "Built-In", and Logic has MacAV disabled.
Instead, Logic engages the ASIO driver for the VXPocket. Switching the
control panel to VXPocket would create a conflict and unnecessarily disable
the metronome which plays through Mac AV (meaning, in this configuration, I
do not need an external device to play the metronome). -Jer

to know if it's good, u can put "0" in the field memory allocation for
Logic... when u gonna turn it on it will took what it needs... but if u are
using some VST Plugs or strong Fx, try to allocate 60 Mo approx....
