[GEN] [LAM] Logic 5.5-specific VST bug?

[GEN] [LAM] Logic 5.5-specific VST bug?

2003-01-31 by Ned Bouhalassa

Hi there people.

I've been beta testing a few softsynths on 5.5 and have noticed that I get
a total hang-up/freeze after a few seconds of mouse movement outside the
plug-in's main editing window. Others have reported problems with pHATmatik
Pro on 5.5, that do not show up on earlier versions of 5. I can confirm
that at least one plug-in I'm testing works fine in 5.3, but hangs in 5.5.

Have any of you also noticed that 5.5 is pickier about which VST plugs it
likes? Do you use 5.x instead of 5.5 because one of your VST
plugs/softsynths doesn't crash? If so, please speak up. I'm hoping that
this is indeed a 5.5 bug, and that it will disappear with 6.0.

Thanks,

Ned

Amplitube now longer works. They say they are working on it, but it's
readily apparent that Emagic veered off of strict VST compatibility to serve
their own programming purposes. Either that or they didn't do much testing
before the release. -Jer

This is just an opinion based on conjecture. Here is another :- it is also
widely known (outside of Emagic as well) that the VST hosts documentation is
woefully inadequate, so host developers other than Steinberg have to reverse
engineer and downright guess some stuff. Which is why some problems can
occur.

There's a reason that Cubase still supports the VST standard better than any
other VST host.
