NI 4Control with EXS ??

NI 4Control with EXS ??

2001-03-11 by Andreas Kauffelt

Hi,

i am trying to use a Native Instruments 4 Control for EXS24.
Anyone can give me a hint how to convert the data which is coming
out with a logic transformer to fix it maybe for cutoff resonance of the
filter?

Or any other solutions than the NI software?

many thanks

Andreas

and you can found the MIDI Number while u move a Fader on the EXS & look at
the MONITOR in the Midi Environement ( if there is one off course...) like
that u can isolate the Prg Number...

Thanks JEr and Igo

for your reply, but the question was not how to find out the midi-parameter
for
the EXS knobs.
The question was: How to convert the relative movement of the Knobs
to Controller data/absolut data.
Because the 4 Control send only the fader movement!
I allready have 4Control-controlling software but would like to do it with
logic only.
So if any logic crack knows an answer or have the 4Control as me that would
be
nice.

thanks

Andreas

It's a lot easier to control filter cutoff using the hyper-edit display. An
8th-note frequency is good for filter cutoff. You find out the control
number info by messing with cutoff through the EXS display while recording.
Then check the event list and you've got the correct info. Delete the junk
track. Create a new one and view it through hyper-edit. Choose a parameter
track and reassign the MIDI control number info to the proper settings you
got from the junk track. Now you can draw really accurate cutoff patterns
that sound very professional. It beats using a virtual controller. The only
thing better is a hardware fader or knob, and still there's a time and place
for the technique I'm suggesting. It works very nicely for build-ups. I know
these instructions are a bit vague, but hopefully you'll catch my drift...

OK, Andreas. I know I didn't answer your question, but isn't it that you
just want to control filter cutoff using on-screen knobs? That can be done
simply with the EXS cutoff knob, if you have a splitter tied to the
instrument object in the environment window (to create a track for
automation of the EXS). Then start recording and move the fader around. If
that doesn't answer your question then I don't think your point is being
understood. -Jer
