Organizing sounds

Organizing sounds

2000-08-18 by Tommy Berre

Hello,
what is the best way to organize your sounds/setups for exs? When I backup Logic projects, I want to throw in all used samples and instruments, do I have to copy all the sounds manually, or can I select used files (like in Logic) and copy/move the files to my current project folder? The manual is sort of thin...

Add prefixes to the names, like D- (for drums). PAD for pads etc.. then
you find what you need quickly.

There are some great key commands for doing this. For example: *backup
audio files of all USED and ACTIVE instruments of current song*. Give
this command a key. Then open one EXS instance you are using in the song
and press the edit button. Now press your key command: a filebox appeares
where you can choose the destination of your backup. The name you give in
that box could be like *mysong EXS backup*. Press OK and all the samples
AND the Sampler Instrument files of all active EXS instances will be
copied there. IMO this is ideal for backing songs up to a CDR.

Yep, very nice idea - and if you name all the prefixes equally long
(for instanace always 4 letters), then Logic is sorting according to the
prefixes! This makes it pretty easy to find stuff.

Thanks for this tip, Ray - have not seen this either up to now...

A nice and sunny weekend to everyone!
