Emagic should add labels to instruments

Emagic should add labels to instruments

2003-02-27 by Remco Muntz

A big hassle for me, and a lot of people, I think, is how to organise
your samples. If you don't take care of it it will become a complete
jungle when you have many instruments. If you do want to organise
everything, it'll cost you lots of time in the finder making lots of
folders and dragging everything around. If you make up your mind later
and change the structure of your instruments-folder it will probably
screw up songs you've already recorded, because the instruments are
wrong.

I think a good solution would be to be able to add labels to
instruments. Label all your string-sounds 'strings' and tell the EXS24
MkII that all instruments labeled 'strings' should be put in a folder
called 'strings'. You could also label folders in your
instruments-folder. Maybe there could even be a possibility to give
instruments several labels. For instance for a Moog-sound that you want
in the 'synths'-folder and in the 'bass'-folder.
A simple solution which will leave your instruments in your
instruments-folder where they are, so changing the organisation later
won't screw up older songs. The organisation is handles completely by
the EXS24 MkII.

In Logic 6 the Project Manager allows you to assign two comments (labels) to each instrument (in fact to any file whether it be AIFF, WAV, LSO, etc)

You can then use the Project Manager to sort accordingly - It has a great search function

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
