When converting from some AKAI CD's, in this case Retro Funk, there are missing samples. Is there a limit on how many zone's can be converted? I only get 41, when there should be 45. //Jonny B.

Jonny,
I've got the Retro Funk CD, but have only converted single 'sets' of
grooves (sorry, can't remember the proper term right now). I haven't tried
to convert multiple sets. Let me know which ones you've tried and I'll try
to replicate it if you wish.
Just a thought, but did you copy the 'non .GC' sample versions or the .GC
ones? I remember reading somewhere (either spectrasonics website or with the
RF documentation) that there are differences between the two versions (don't
recall what however). All I know is that I've converted the non .GC versions
by accident and gotten some pretty strange sounding results.

I only get 41, when there should be 45. Wo is the stock translator... BTW, things like this gave us the impetus to make a product that does things right. Actually, if you do the math, you can figure out why it's doing that. Apparently the stock translator assumes that a program is 1 Akai Cluster long, which is 8192 bytes - and this isn't true. RetroFunk is by Spectrasonics, who use S3000 format - so you have a program header and keygroup size of 192 bytes each. From that, you can see that only 41 keygroups (that's what you mean, I believe - not "zones") are translated (192 + (41*192) = 8064 bytes). Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * | Garth Hjelte | | Customer Service Representative, President | | Chicken Systems, Inc, Rubber Chicken Software Co. | | 714 5th Street SE | | Willmar, MN 56201 USA | | | | 800-8-PRO-EPS Toll Free Order Line (US Only) | | 320-235-9798 Tech Support, Sampler Questions | | International Line | | 360-838-7689 Fax | | Product Sales: sales@... | | Product Support: support@... | | Sampler Q+A: qa@... | | Web Page: www.chickensys.com | * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Jonny,
I fired up Tower GC and also got 41 keygroups, not 45 like you said you got
on your EMU. Which ones were missing? How do the two (EMU vs EXS) compare as
far as sounds -I mean do you notice any missing drum sounds or hits? Maybe
they just do something different in their formatting?
