giga compatability

giga compatability

2003-04-17 by longys_wot_not_worx

I've just got the Peter Siedlaczek advanced orchestra set of 5 CDs in
gigasampler format. When I follow the directions and copy the files
from CD to the "sampler instruments" directory, all of the files copy
over OK, but when I click on the menu (AFTER CLICKING "REFRESH MENU")
approximately 2/3 of the sounds do not even appear on the menu.

I have taken this matter to the top of Emagic support in Australia,
who claim there is no incompatability problem.

The other 1/3 of the files convert to EXS format, but without any
ability to use the giga XFD function on the mod wheel.

Has anyone had this problem with this product? Has anyone got AO to
work converting from giga?? Am I going nuts over a simple thing I
missed?

I am using a powermac G4 twin 1.23GHz with 1 Gb ram and Logic audio
platinum V5.5.

Can the authors of Translator and CDXtract respond to this question: Does
the EXS24 support the capability of modwheel-controlled crossfades, and (if
so) does your product support this function in its Giga-to-EXS24 conversion?
I think this has been discussed, but I'd like to pool the knowledge in one
message string. Thanks. -Jer

Longys,

I would recommend using the fabulous CDXtract
(http://www.cdxtract.com/feat4.php). It'll cost you a bit, but it's a
better translation tool than using the EXS alone, and not just for Giga->EXS.

As for your AO question, I don't have experience with translating this
collection, but I've had success with other Giga collections, like SAM
Horns, Garritan Strings, G-Town samples and Post Accordion. You might want
to post your question in the Sample Librairies section of the very
informative Northern Sounds Forum
(http://www.northernsounds.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?).

Late bulletin: I received an email this morning from the programmer of
CDXtract (Bernard Chavonnet), and in it he writes that he's putting the
finishing touches on the proper translation of Giga X-Fade ModWheel
translation - excellent news!

Good luck,

Ned
