Don't worry. It's not possible to not install EXS24 if you've
installed Logic 5 or 6. It comes as part of the bundle, already built
in. The only thing you need to get it to work is an unexpired XSKey
license for it.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the EXS24 areas". Do you mean the spots
on the channel strips where you would normally click and select the
EXS24 from the menu? If that's crossed out, then it's normally a audio
driver problem. Check your settings.
Also, you should make sure you're trying to insert the EXS24 on an
audio INSTRUMENT track, and not just an audio track.
one more thing: IIRC, the location to insert audio instruments on the
audio instrument channel strip changed between 4&5. You now want to
click on the second box from the bottom of the strip to insert
instruments -- just above the output (which should read something like
"output 1-2").
