Dear list, We use Protools a lot of the time and I would assume that it is safe to say by now that EXS24 will never appear as a HTDM/RTAS plugin? Therefore I guess we are forced to look at Mach V as a sampler to use from within Protools..? Just checking, TIA and regards Janne A.

Hi Janne, I know of one orchestral editor who is using the DTDM in Logic while slaved to PTools routine. This allows the EXS to come up in an aux in the PTools mixer. It means that you have to use ESB though. It's a great and seemless system and gives you the EXS plus midi capabilities of Logic and the audio capabilities and superior automation of PTools. Logic as a EXS 24 host only? You're right...hmmm.. Might actually be worth another go under OSX... if we can play midi in PT too, to trigger EXS playback.. Trying to run the two as a combo was allways way too slow IMHO.. thanx for heads-up Janne A. pbuckle@... writes: >Hi Janne, I know of one orchestral editor who is using the DTDM in Logic >while slaved to PTools routine. I was thinking of the HostTDM enabler. But according to emagic site EXS isn't supported. That's kind of the only reason I'd get it so I guess I am not getting it till it supports EXS... which it probably will in 3 years or so... in the meantime, enjoy Mach 5... teddybut

I just put up a site for some of my music and some EXS instruments. check it out: http://www.pbone.org/ ===== "You blow in this end of the trombone, and sound comes out the other end and disrupts the cosmos." I was just at a Logic6 demo and the ESB TDM package was brought up. Someone asked why the EXS wasn't included in the list of AudioInstruments that could be used through ESB TDM. The eMagic rep said that it wasn't a political or time-constraints issue, but that the EXS is so tightly integrated with Logic's audio engine that it would take a rewrite to get it to work "outside" of Logic. Maybe this is of interest to those following this thread: In Logic 6.1 (just released): "The update allows the use of Digidesign TDM systems with Logic Platinum 6 under Mac OS X. It also provides the full functionality of Emagic's optional ESB TDM and PTHD Extensions in Mac OS X. This now provides TDM users with the opportunity to use the Emagic software instruments - ES1, ES2, EVOC20, EVP88, EVD6, EVB3 and EXS24 - in combination with the reliable, powerful TDM DSP hardware together with Logic Platinum 6 on the advanced Mac OS X platform." Hope this helps Colin

The MAC or the sample is loaded in the TDM card ? Why this question ? VSL ! Same question with using the TC card ? Which would mean one of two things: he or she was dancing, or the EXS VST "playback only" (!) version is/was quite different. ESB works very well, though. *** I don't have version 6 yet, but what intrigues me is the possibility of importing frozen tracks out of the temporary holding folder (since I mix in Pro Tools). It may appear that you can, because Logic allows you to insert an EXS on a TDM Aux object - but this is just a convenience. It is still running from the native audio engine (and ram). There is a benefit to Emagic doing it this way. ESB, the Emagic technology that allows you to stream the mac native audio engine into TDM outputs, only allows for 8 channels. By allowing the EXS to be inserted in a TDM aux object you don't take up any of those ESB channels for EXS, AND you can get MANY EXS outputs to TDM as well. -- ==/==/==/==/==/==/==/==/== Paul Najar Jaminajar Music Production http://www.jaminajar.com.au

Just tried it tonight & it worked perfectly fine!!! only one thing: the files have weird names, so you have to rename them in PT if you want to make sense out of them...
