Actually, EXS-24 has lots of onboard editing, albeit basic, just click one
of the "E"'s in the editor (not the spaceship). There is a samperate
convertor, an Energizer, more.
That doesn't seem to be a lot, unless I'm missing where you are coming from.
Maybe the real answer to your question is that samplers like EXS or HALion
or Kontakt don't need to reinvent the wheel - there are tons of wave
editors out there, free and commercial. I remember when SoundForge was on
sale for $100. Just use any of those on the sample files.
