Beats Working

Hey Phil,

Thanks for the great tip! It really sounds like a winner to me. The only
problem is that, as a non-ProTools user, I would opt for the audio cd
version - but I can't see myself PHATmatik-ing or ReCycling (that I'll have
to buy - I was going to wait for NI's version, but that may take forever) 2
complete cds. It's really too bad they don't chop them up for us instead.
I'd be willing to pay more, like for Groove Control collections, to have
the ability to match any tempo...

Ned

PS: yeah, the demo's a bit cheezy, but the drums rock!

Hi Ned, Yes I bought just the audio version. In this situation I will simply
fly the Wav tracks in to "Live". Then I run Logic and Live via rewire. The
most amazing thing is to be able to have a complete sample CD worth of loops
in one session of Live and have it locked to triggering on the bar. Just put
Logic in repeat and start hitting grooves in Live. It's incredible what you
will discover when you actually hear different loops against your track.

Hi Ned, I did the transfer last night and would you believe that Live has a
problem with some of these grooves. It's only about 5% but Live is not
mapping the beats properly. It just means you have to adjust them manually
and they're ok.
In truth you will still hear the cymbals pulsing on the slices with Recycle.
There does not seem to be a way around this.
But Ned, don't forget that once you have the tempo you desire you can simply
export the file out of Live at that tempo.............no slicing. This of
course locks you out of messing with individual slices but I've often done
both. Exported the file and sliced it as well.
Also be aware that even though the Live algorithm is incredible it does have
limitations. You can really hear artifacts at about 10bpm slower. Speeding
up doesn't seem to matter.

How does Ableton Live compare with Logic's newer feature of time stretching a
loop in the arrange window?
