The limit is in the OS.... you can still see them if you switch to control view... Andrea

thanks for your answer, of course it is possible to use different subsets of my instruments, but maybe there is a more comfortable solution?? hm, but i dont think so.... regards, samy

While I don't know wether the limit is around 15.000 there certainly
is a limit to the size of a menu. If I recall it correctly the ID
of a menu entry (used by the windowing system to indicate which
particular entry had been selected) is a 16bit number thus allowing
for a theoretical maximum of 65000 distinguishable menu-entries.
It doesn't seem far fetched to assume that the range reserved for
EXS Instruments does not span the full theoretically possible range.

Do you *always* need all your 15.000 instruments or could you
preselect some by moving those you don't need (temporarily) into
a different directory ?
Or in other words:
Assuming there is a maximum number of instruments and this is
around 15.000 than I suppose you have no choice other than using
a subset of your instruments possibly selected on a case by case
basis.
