When you mean dual bootable do you mean it won't boot with OS9. Some
powerbooks do. I know the 12" doesn't....but my new 15" does....not
sure about the 17"...however I suspect that it does not. Both the 12
and 17" models were new from the ground up this year. The 15" was an
existing machine...how long it will continue to do this...or if the
models coming out as I type still support this...no clue. They are
phasing it out on all machines.

You'll probably need to ask Apple this one.

all of the recent macs, including the 12" and the 17", no longer boot in
other than OSX.
The 15" titanium, as it¡s kind of a *legacy* computer still boots into 9, My
550 titanium boots no problem, as the 1ghz should (i have no notices it
cannot, and doubt they had modified the eprom to avoid it, as it was the
only portable on sale than could run QuarkXpress, a vital selling point for
apple).

Anyway, the 15" hasnt been upgraded for more than 8 months, breaking the
usual 6 months revision period for powerbooks. A new aluminium 15" G4 should
appear in no time though.

If you really need to run 9 (for how long? it's already discontinued by
apple, and it's a PITA compared to OSX) buy a s/h 15" in good condition and
save your € for the G5 powerbooks (MWSF04 the earliest YMMV)

Clear and simple answer: Until SoundDiver (or an equivalent) is released
for OSX.

>G5 powerbooks MWSF04 the earliest YMMV??? What does this mean?

this is common knowledge among mac people, excuse me for been this criptic.
Along the year apple has 4 main Expos,(san francisco, tokio, new york,
paris) and for the last years they've been releasing new computers at the
expos (soemthing Jobs wants to terminate, as it was hurting sales a month
before every expo).
BTW, MWSF04 means MacWorld San Francisco, wich takes place in January 2004.

There's lotsa buzz regarding a G5 powerbooks, but the most educated guesses
say they wont appear till IBM can manufacture the 970 chip with thinner
technology, which will make the processor to keep cooler. Have you seen the
dissipators of the G5? that's what i'm talking about.
Moreover, a chief in apple say the other day that motorola is not discarded
yet (and for sometime it will remain partner) because it's the provider of
the powerbooks cpus, and that they wouldnt be a g5 powerbook for some time.

Of course we may take this with a big grain of salt, but it looks like there
will be another G4 upgrade for the whole powerbook line before we see G5s
inside. Best informed guesses say new revision around august-september (G4),
and G5 next year (MWSF04 the earliest). Your Milaege May Vary.

hope this helps.
