Good piano sounds on EXSP24 CD???

Good piano sounds on EXSP24 CD???

2003-07-30 by Jaap en Janny

Hi,

I'm running Logic Audio 5.5 on my iMac; I have both OS 9 and OS X
running, and the only thing that stops me from moving to OS X
completely is the fact that there's no Audio Units version of
Sampletank and Loopazoid :-(
I've been playing with the 4-week-trial version of EXS24, and I like it
a lot. BUT for me, that's quite an investment to make.
I read on the Emagic website that if you buy the EXSP24 (the player
version), you get 500 MB of samples for free.
Is there a good piano on the CD???
For now, I'm quite happy with the Sampletank Free Piano. I know that
there are better piano's out there (from Sampletank themselves, for
example), but I'm not a pro pianist, so a piano of the same level as
the Free Piano would be O.K.
I do like a fairly "classic" sound (not the "sharp" rock piano sound).

Thanks for any tips!

Regards
Jaap

Jaap,
Supposing it's still the 'same old collection' that Emagic is
shipping: no the Emagic piano is not that great and it's rather
memory hungry.

I guess most members on this list would agree that the best free,
available grand piano is the one you may download from the AKAI FTP-
site.

You can read on my site for further instructions
(http://www.cone.nl/test/exs.htm)

Good luck

I don't mind the Emagic Factory Piano, but it's definitely not the best
I've heard, and the AKAI ones are WAY better. Seeing as they are both
free, I use the AKAI ones all the time now. I had no problem importing
them into my EXS24.

I have never been able to download those samples. I tried
repeatedly many months ago, and again after reading this
posting, but have always gotten a connection error. It sounds
like others are having no problem getting to the Akai FTP site.
Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Gregory

Try a couple of times in a row
try at different times (consider different time zones)
try active/passive FTP (don't know which one is the one that works)

I've tried it lots of times and it didn't work but last week I
downloaded all the libraries they have on there.

Thanks to Garth Hjelte's assistance and a lot of persistence, I was finally
able to download the Akai piano samples. I had been happily using ST Free
on OS9, but got the Akai samples to use with EXSP AU on my laptop.

However, I'm not all that thrilled and wonder if I am perhaps doing
something wrong. When I play normally the sound is beautiful, but when I go
past a certain velocity, the samples sound so harsh that they seem to be
coming from a different instrument, completely destroying any sonic
continuity across the dynamic range.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there some tweaking I can do to
remedy this? I've never created an instrument from samples, but it almost
seems as if I'm missing a couple of steps of timbre changes across the
dynamic range.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Gregory

I had to remap a couple of samples because they seemed to be damaged.
Have your editor open when you strike the note (at the right velocity), and
take a look at that particular sample. It's probably short and mangled.

Hello,

I am looking for good free piano sample for exsp24. Could you give me
the address of this akai FTP site, I don't find it

Can you confirm that importing sound font 2 (sf2) doesn't work in
exsp24 for mac os x? Or is there an update where it's corrected.

Thank you.

It seems though that nowadays you need a login/password to get in --
or at least that what I often hear from people trying to access the
site. If you manage to get through, the EXS-conversions of the
instruments can be found a.o. in the Logic section of my website.

upgrading myTi550 to Alu 1Ghz worth it for exs24?

2003-09-25 by jenrique gc

that pretty much says it all.

i havent touched logic/exs24 for a while (more than a year, under os 9).

now i'm going back to music, and wonder it would be a good idea to change my
Ti550 768ram to a new alu 1ghz strictly for logic and exs24 tasks? or should
i wait till end of next year (as Jobs just said) for the G5 powerbooks?

what would you do? any Ti1ghz user can comment on his performance?

thanks in advance,
jindrich.
