Subject: Re: [gsp-2101] master volume with CC controller
Yes...GP...I have tried that parameter. I have to tell ya'll...I've been using preamps for 25 years. Yes...the 2101 is a bit different with it's multiple mixer options, but from The Chain Reaction I bought new in 1986-7, to the GSP-21 Pro, to the RP-2000 to Rocktron Voodu Valve to Vox Tonelab SE, and several others....I've ALWAYS found a "master volume". And I DEPEND on it with my life!
Now...after exploring on my own a bit, I have:
1) Selected a program (Distortion + delay)
2) Assigned the CC to Post EQ Master Volume distortion "on".
3) Calibrated the Pedal
4) Set min/max
And under this program...I still have volume in the minimal setting. With the above operations, I have reduced it...but it's still there...still audible as if on "1/2" or "1" on a typical guitar amp master volume. I would conclude that there is some sort of leakage or fault in the pedal or midi. . But under a different program...no fx....CC works perfectly...dead quiet to full volume.
Now I can only conclude that with effects, the signal is somehow being routed away from this "Master Volume" parameter. As you can see...it's very frustrating. I appreciate the "how to link a parameter to cc" message...but I am FAR beyond that. The volume link to CC is working.....and the best I can see at this point is it is working without effects...and not working so well with effects.
I should add...that even with the 2101 front control panel...the master volume does not make the volume go to dead quiet. Faulty 2101?
I will continue to beat this issue over the head.....but I need some REAL help here! There has to be something I am missing.
Signed,
Desperately seeking zero volume with FX.

Have you tried using the Volume at the end of the analog section? I believe it's right after the analog EQ. The advantage of using this Volume control is that it allows any digital effects such as reverb or echo to trail away even though you've reduced the volume of the signal being sent from the analog section to the digital section.----- Original Message -----From: Steve krallSent: Tuesday, June 01, 2010 11:05 AMSubject: Re: [gsp-2101] master volume with CC controllerHey thanks! I have the manual.....my problem is I can't find "MASTER VOLUME" to assign the pedal to. Some patches have a TON of left/right mixes...but there's no clear cut "mater Volume parameter.I did find one patch that has a complete volume control...but it's post effects. I'll try to find what parameter they assigned...that will work for non-FX patches.Steve

Regarding using your expression pedal to control Master Volume, here's a copy of a Help page from MIDIWizard's Help Menu:Assigning Control of a New Parameter to an Expression PedalFrom your program’s title screen, use the [Previous] or [Next] arrow buttons and the function keys [1], [2], or [3] to select the parameter you wish to link to the expression pedal. Next, press the [Link] button. At this point, your 2101’s LED displays the message “Select a Foot Switch”. Move your expression pedal to link it to the selected parameter. Your 2101’s LED confirms the new link.Press function key [2] and use the DATA wheel to specify the parameter value corresponding to the full back toe-up pedal position. Press function key [3] and use the DATA wheel to specify the parameter value corresponding to the full forward toe-down pedal position. The default values are the parameter’s minimum and maximum values respectively. If you want to invert the effect of your expression pedal, set the “Min Value” greater than the “Max Value”.It’s usually difficult to know what minimum and maximum values you should select at this point. After playing with the expression pedal for a while, you’ll want to change these settings. The help topic entitled “Changing Minimum and Maximum Foot Switch or Expression Pedal Settings” describes how to do this.Press the [Link] button to exit the link menu. Remember to press the [Store] button if you wish to save your updated program.----- Original Message -----From: Steve krallSent: Monday, May 31, 2010 5:01 PMSubject: [gsp-2101] master volume with CC controllerHello everyone. I'm wondering how to link each patch master volume to the continuous controller. I've had MANY outboard preamps...and whenever they have a CC pedal...I've always found and used a patch master volume. In other word..I always have a volume pedal to control my overall volume....zero to max.
I can;t seem to find the 2101 master volume control. I haven't mastered it yet...and in fact am confused by the large assortment of mixing options. Some patches seem to have a volume link...but it's not totally zero volume. Almost like a submix or uncalibrated pedal...even though I have calibrated and set it to 0 min 15 max. There SHOULD be a master volume control for all patches that take it from dead nothing to full on,, no matter how many submixed stereo mixes you can dream up.
Where are they? How do I link the CC to the master volumes?
Thanks guys...I'm befuddled. First preamp EVER that I can't figure this out.
