Like M M said you definitely need to have the needed and fully functioning DIN cable. I say fully functioning because many MIDI capable electronic devices actually use only 3 of 5 pins. This is why many MIDI cable manufacturers make 5 pin cables that actually only use 3 of the pins. There's also other types of DIN cables that have more pins but also have only some of the pins wired as well.

All that said you just need to get a fully functional 5 pin MIDI to eliminate that as the possible source of your problems. You'll need to avoid the cheapo ones for sure.

One other thing is that if you're using the Control 1 or 2101FC Digitech pedal board make sure you're using the designated DIN socket for it and NOT the MIDI one(s).

Hope this helps. Let us know how it turns out.

Subject: [gsp-2101] Controll One Issue

I have tried two different cables and not sure whate the problem might be.
The pedals 1, 2, 6, and 7 all seem to have the same problem.
When I press them they light up brightly then dim, sometimes I have to tap them twice for the patch to stay.
When I pressed UTILITY on the GSP 2101 itself and I believe I hit 2, then 2, then 3 which lights up all the leds, 1, 2, 6, and 7 did not light up at all.

The first cable was a 5-pin din shielded Nuetrik and the second one was a 5 pin din cheap cable from Guitar Center.

I have tested all with different surge protectors and outlets.

Any help would be awesome.
Thanks,
