Actually the first time I cracked it open I changed the battery- got a few of them in April for some other devices I have. I got it booted up for a while last night and it never did get hot at all. (except of course the transformer and tubes) So I am now chasing down test point voltages as I can find them. There are quite a lot of regulators and op amps to look at so it may be a while.
