Yes, that must be it. Magic. Forget the possibility that perhaps different 
revisions/configurations may react differently to a dead/dying battery. You 
probably won't believe this either, but my 2101 is running without the 
battery as I type this (yes, I checked before responding, and was prepared 
to eat crow if I was mistaken). Early production unit, revision A0 
mainboard, sdisc 2 on the board, sdisc 1 on the ppc, 20mhz mod, 3.00.00 
artist firmware.

It looks like a new battery may have solved telecasterkid's problem as 
well. It still doesn't run the clock though :)
