2101 Crash!

2101 Crash!

2007-03-24 by sg3352003

Hello everyone, Ive been away from the user groups for some time and
sadly I'm back due to disaster. After almost 13 years My 2101 has
crashed. I have version 1.03 and the other day at power up the screen
locked up,flashed, and junk characters appeared on the screen. I re-
powered,same stuff,re-powered again and again;although
holding :Store+Utiliy I could get into Utility mode;but when released
same garbage and no signal. I would guess the roms have gone haywire.
I opened up the unit, found no bad solder joints or loose
connects/cables etc. has anyone experienced this? Could another set of
Roms cure this? What a bummer.I've used the 2101 in my stage rack
forever.(Iam bidding on Ebay for A 3.0 artist-gold face). Please
help 'cos Digitech doesn't offer support anymore, I suppose. Thanks for
any insight. Ric in Ohio.

Step 1: Try a Factory Reset:
  1. Power off your 2101
  2. Press and hold function (access) key [1] while powering on your 2101
  3. Wait until the asterisk * appears in the top-left corner of the display
  4. Release function key [1]
  5. Press the Program Up button to complete the Factory Reset
Step 2: Buy a new battery
The battery is an Eveready CR 2032 or equivalent
Step 3: Upgrade your EPROMs to version 3.00.00:
Buy your upgrade EPROMs from Function 7 Engineering so you get a free copy of MIDIWIzard with your new chips:
With MIDIWizard, you can save all those valuable user programs you've spent years tweaking and restore them the next time you have a crash.
Step 4: If all else fails, contact Function 7 or DigiTech and send your unit back to them for repair.
They still repair 2101s for a very reasonable price, and they have a quick turnaround.
Step 5: Keep in touch with your brothers who use 2101s.

Ric,

Do not panic, same thing happened to me not so long ago. Follow what
Graham is suggesting line by line. Just replace the battery in first
place, then continue with the rest.

I think what happened to me was simply that, the battery, as it
hasn't happened again.

BTW, when was the last time you recall replacing it?

Gus.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
