Hi - just found this group, and I'm hoping my search is now over. I have a GSP2101 with the PPC210 upgrade running firmware 3.00.00 and I have a weird problem.

If I use the data wheel to scroll to a preset, lets say preset 1, and then start to play, very occasionally the unit will 'jump' to another preset for about 1/2 sec and then go back to preset 1. I also noticed today that sometimes it does not seem to 'get' the signal from the guitar, I pick a string and no sound comes from the gsp2101.

Is this a really bad sign that my unit is about to die? I really hope not...

Hope someone here can help or shed some light on this issue.

Cheers

Matt

This is not a typical problem. If you live in the USA, I suggest you contact DigiTech in Sandy Utah, get an RMA number, and then return the unit to them for repair. DigiTech is good about repairing discontinued products and their service is very reasonably priced. Hope this helps. GP

My buddy Frank tried to send his in a couple of months ago and DigiTech informed him that they no longer offer repair services for the 2101.

When is the last time you changed tubes ? And try changing the lithium button battery. It is true that Digitech no longer offers support for the GSP 2101 because they no longer have the parts to repair them. If changing tubes or the Button battery doesn't help, depending on where you live, you may be able to find a tech that can help you. Riff

Hi!
A known problem.
The encoder is defective.
Encoders are sold out.

Thanks for your replies guys, if it is the encoder, does this mean the unit is done for? Would be a shame but I need something reliable for gigs and this would make me very nervous.

Anyone know where I could get an encoder from?

Thanks

Matt

No... .. The unit is by no means ' Done For. As Dieter says... you have to find and encoder. One will turn up. The people in this group are very helpful and friendly. I'll do some looking for you myself... If I find one, I'll contact you and put you in touch with the person selling it. Riff

Hi Riff

Many thanks for your reply, I have replaced the CR2032 battery and checked everything was seated properly, I think it is possible the data wheel contacts need a clean as does the output pot as that is a bit noisy when operated.

Hopefully an encoder will turn up as well.

Matt

When I first got my 2101 on Ebay about 5 years ago, it had the similar issues. I am comfortable around a circuit board, so I actually took the encoder apart completely and cleaned the wiper contacts using some very fine carbide paper (wet and dry paper (use dry please!!), made sure they were contacting with the track and just for good measure I used some contact cleaner on the tracks. Never had a issue since. Try the contact cleaner first, may just do the trick, if not, you may want to try my 'extreme' method :)

Re: [gsp-2101] Re: New GSP2101 user

If it is the encoder you can still use the function buttons along with the control one to navigate through programs. No signal may indicate a different problem. Did you recently upgrade the firmware, install new chips? Also check every button on the face of the unit, make sure they all work. The units can act up if any of them are or have failed.

Matt

It's the rotary controller (pot) that you turn to select the programs. You should also carry out the trouble shooting suggested by C Mead before taking anything apart just in case it isn't the problem.

Good luck!
