Question about upgrade

Question about upgrade

2011-07-21 by Neil Rego

Hi,
I have a GSP 2101 Preamp/processor S-Disc 1.06.06 September '94 model.

I would like to know if I want to do an upgrade to 3.00.00, would the chip be compatible for this model?

Cheers,
Neil

I've done it. It's not a big deal but you will want to backup all your "user" programs first because you will lose them. This is more of a challenge than the upgrade but there has been some great info published on this board detailing the procedure just a few days ago.

Good luck!

You need to be careful when changing the software though. Unlike changing a battery, I've heard that after a software/firmware upgrade
that your midi dump might not work afterwards (I have not tried it, your mileage may vary). In this case you might have find a way to dump your patches one at a time or actually write the settings with pen and paper (hassle). It's for this reason both my 2101's are 2.06.06 to this day.

CORRECT: The format of SysEx dumps changed between EPROM versions prior to Version 3.00.00 and Version 3.00.00. MIDIWizard is the only software that accommodates this change in format. In other words, you can use MIDIWizard (or any other software) to create a system dump of your user programs corresponding to an older EPROM version (e.g. 2.06.06) but then you can only use MIDIWizard to restore your Version 3.00.00 GSP-2101 using this system dump.

Graham, how much is the MIDIWizard software? I might buy it for this feature alone. As a severe 2101 addict since the early 1990's I should probably upgrade to 3.00.00.

I'm just not sure if intelligent pitch shifting is worth it. What exactly does this offer? What is an example of intelligent pitch shifting in popular music?
