Setting up the FC

Setting up the FC

2017-05-16 by bardkin@...

Ok, now that my repairs have proven to be working, and now that I can successfully run and use MidiWizard, I'm on my next step and need more advice. I have read the manual and it is not addressing my questions on how to do a few things with this pedal. So, I'll ask a few questions, and if someone can help me with them, that would be awesome. (please note I have the 1st gen GSP 2101 fc, not the Control One.)

#1) can I name my user banks or am I stuck with the numbers? If so, how?

I may be going about this the wrong way but I thought maybe I could set up banks where I would have up to 10 programs that successively get more and more involved-

Bank 1 Bank 2
user 1 clean user 1 light saturated tube
user 2 clean with light chorus user 2 more saturation
user 3 clean with more chorus user 3 lots of saturation with chorus
user 4 clean with light delay user 4 lots of saturation with flanger
Etc. Etc...

#2) Just how the hell do you get the wha to work with the expression pedal? I've tried setting up a new algorithm with the effect, but it doesn't do anything with the pedal. I haven't had a wha pedal for years and I'd like to have one again! It does work under some of the factory programs and I tried to mimic them in my algorithm but I can't figure out how to make it work with that pedal. Is it supposed to be 16 or do I need to change it? Do I need to link the expression pedal to the effect or something?

Thanks for any help.

#1) Your foot pedal's LED display reflects the name of the program currently loaded on your GSP-2101. If you want your pedal to display the names you suggest, then rename each of the GSP-2101 programs so they correspond to what you want displayed on your pedal.

#2) MIDIWizard cannot automate the process of linking your expression pedal to your wah parameter, but one of MIDIWizard's Help Topics describes the process. Here's a copy & paste of that help topic. You can display this topic from the following MIDIWizard menu sequence:
GSP-2101 / Foot Controller options / Control One, GSP-2101FC, Johnson J-12 / Expression Pedal Features / Linking a Parameter to a Pedal ...

Assigning Control of a New Parameter to an Expression Pedal

MIDIWizard can’t automate this process for you. You’ll have to resort to some button pushing. From your program’s title screen, use the [Previous] or [Next] arrow buttons and the function keys [1], [2], or [3] to select the parameter you wish to link to an expression pedal. Next, press and hold the [MIDI] button until your GSP-2101’s LED displays “Assigning CC/FS” and then release the [MIDI] button. Your GSP-2101 displays the “is not Linked” message.

Use the DATA wheel to scroll through the possible Links. These Links include Int Exp Pedal and Ext Exp Pedal. Select Int Exp Pedal to link the parameter to the Control One's expression pedal or the Johnson J-12's left pedal. Select Ext Exp Pedal to link to a second expression pedal attached to your Control One or to the J-12's right pedal.

Next, press function key [2] to display the Min/Max menu. Press function key [2] and use the DATA wheel to specify the parameter value corresponding to the full back toe-up pedal position. Press function key [3] and use the DATA wheel to specify the parameter value corresponding to the full forward toe-down pedal position.

The default values are the parameter’s minimum and maximum values respectively. If you want to invert the effect of your expression pedal, set the “Min Value” greater than the “Max Value”.

It’s usually difficult to know what minimum and maximum values you should select at this point. After playing with the expression pedal for a while, you’ll want to change these settings. The help topic entitled “Changing Minimum and Maximum Foot Switch or Expression Pedal Settings” describes how to do this.

Press the [MIDI] button to exit the link menu. Remember to press the [Store] button if you wish to save your updated program.

The help topic entitled “Removing a Link between a Program Parameter and a Foot Switch or Expression Pedal” describes how to use your GSP-2101's front panel buttons to remove a link between a program parameter and an expression pedal.

Hope this helps.

Graham
