When my k5 was crashing it did the same thing as you. As you found,
removing battery resets the RAM. You don't need to power the K5 on to
clear it. Just remove, wait and reinstall it. The only problem is that
it's soldered to the PCB. It's the only permanant way I found.
For the backlight, try to add solder to every joints of the board
where the inverter is. Also, where they are soldered on the LCD board.

i didn´told you this before because it happened yesterday the firts
time ;)
Anyway, it´s working again! Damn this K5 is really a kind of it´s own.
First i can´t access the multis, after selecting another PGM in
midiwindow a few times and after hitting a few keys..it´s working now
again.. in fact i forgot to set protect to on again ..i guess thats
why it was going crazy. What was it at your unit? Didn´t it work for
you already then? Well mine works fine now again.. the question is how
long ;)
I don´t know if i understand this thing with the battery correctly.
( i am german - my english is not the best sometimes- sorry ) ... But
i guess you mean to take the battery out of the unit to and then power
the k5 on to clear a kind of ram storage, right ???
Note: Please send me personal emails that often - only if they are
really fo my ears only. I am hotmail - and since i get a lot of spamv
mails i don´t look that often intoo that mailbox there. Anyway info
like this is maybe helpful for others too. But thanx for your support

Thanx i will try that. My backlight is dead again since 2 days. A few
days ago it was really strange. The light turned on and out several
times in a minute. Does anyone here had same porblems?
