Hi everyone,

Here's my final list for K5 ROM orders(please check if you're not 
there). Please tell me if I should add or remove someone, since it's 
going to be the final list.
I'm not ordering everyone's chip now(I'll test myself first), but for 
tax reasons on my side, if I get more than a certain number of ROMs on 
my next order, it will turn much more expensive.
So, I will order my own Flash ROM chips(and new requests) in 1-2 days, 
and order the 11 others later to keep things cheap.

I will take new requests until tomorrow 8-9PM - EDT (0-1 o'clock GMT)

Please tell me if you're not on the list or don't want to upgrade finally.

Hi Antoine,

I know it's a bit late in the day, but I take it that v1.3 would not 
work / give no benefit to a K5m, rather than it just being the case 
that non have been fitted with this version so far? Without knowing 
the diference between the two, it's hard to see why 1.3 would be 
unsuitable in the rack module unless Kawai have stated that the 
additional programming is keyboard specific.. Do the v1.3 release 
notes (or whatever) rule out the K5m?     Just a thought...

Well, the thing is, the circuit is not exactly the same for the K5 and
K5m, and they need different ROMs because of this. There's a v1.0 for
the K5, and a different v1.0 for the K5m, etc.

Dang it, I just missed this. Antoine, if you do a second batch, I'd
totally want whatever OS you think is best for a K5 keyboard. I have
1.0 and was meaning to upgrade; I should have frequented the list more
often!

Hi Genaro,

you didn't miss it, I figured out that the amp I almost finished 
building still needs a few parts I can't get locally.

I can take more orders finally! I got so much new requests that I don't 
have to limit the number of ICs in the next order(ROMs that are not 
mine) to keep things cheap.

Amidst all the ROM happenings on the list tonight, I
opened up my K5M because I figured 18 years was a
pretty good service life for an EPROM. 

My original factory chip read in on my programmer and
the file from the group both md5sum to
26e2ecadadf6ca03c23bc3d85f37ee1e That gave me some
confidence- I used a standard TI 27C512-15 in place of
the original Hitachi. It appears to work well. RAM
Patches remained intact.

The original Hitachi HN27C512G-20 PGM 12.5V dated 8926
was labeled:

KAWAI
P020H
[K5m}

Now, I\ufffdm going to be interested in replacing the
display with something that I can see more clearly.

You might want to dump your patches back on your computer and unplug
the lithium battery for a few seconds to clear the saved information
because sometimes there are errors in it and the K5 starts working
strangely. (At least, with my both K5s running V1.0 it happens)

Well Wayne, are you able to read what's on your current display if you
adjust the contrast properly? You may need to replace both the EL
backlight and inverter then. (You can buy a foot of EL foil for $15,
instead of replacing the whole LCD worth $70 at the cheapest place I
found.)

Bill, you're already on it. 

By the way, I can still take orders as I have not received my first Mouser order, so I still haven't tested the replacement Flash ROMs to see if they work well in the K5.
