Hi, > But you can filter on 'Subjects' in an email client just like with a news > reader can't you? This is how I read the LUG, of course keep in mind that I have to "moderate" where necessary and therefore I read it in a strange way: - first I sort on subject lines: that way I can easily see mails that don't have a subject line or mails that have the typical "re:digest xxxx" subject line. Also I read the subject lines to see the threads: if there are threads that cause problems, I can choose to read them sorted by subject line, or sorted by thread. When there are things that interest me, then I read them here as well. - then I sort on sender: it's easy to keep an eye on some senders that way and to read emails from Emagic people etc. - then I sort by thread and read the rest. That way I have all mails and replies to a mail sorted in a nice way and it's easy to scan the mails for offending stuff as well. And of course I forgot to mention that all mails with [LUG] in the subject line are automatically put in a separate folder which I named, well guess... LUG. :-) All of this is done on a free Netscape 4.71 Win platform. > The only disadvantage > with newsgroups is that not every provider gives you access to all > newsgroups. And that's not so with email. Indeed! Email guarantees compatibility with everyone, except for two Australian ISP's that block Onelist because their email servers can't handle the amount of mail. I'm currently still discussing the options with them (read: trying to make them upgrade their servers ;-). > Plus, we've got possibilities to search for messages, try that > with a newsreader. Yeah, but this is still a minor point at Onelist: try the search function: it just doesn't do it for me. Hopefully they'll change that soon. If you keep all the messages, then of course email clients like Netscape allow you to find any words in any mail or any folder. > Hey, this list(the OT one) is pretty silent. I've tried, but didn't manage to make this list succesful yet. with only 100+ subscribers, this is still a very small list when compared to the LUG (2600+ subscribers) > Hope we can discuss this and about the 'Nude Platinum Chick' in here, :-), Indeed... I didn't want to reply to that thread because a friend of mine just sent me the big Emagic poster with that chick on it. :-)))) Ciao, Joeri -- Joeri Vankeirsbilck joeri@...
