The email system offers many advantages over newsgroups > though!!! But you can filter on 'Subjects' in an email client just like with a news reader can't you? I don't see the difference here. The only disadvantage with newsgroups is that not every provider gives you access to all newsgroups. And that's not so with email. Btw, this Onelist mailinglist can be used as a newsgroup; if log on on the web, you can read a selection of messages just like with newsgroups. > What I meant is this: it's ok to give your opinion about it, but it's useless to > have huge threads about it because it's not going to change anyway. We've already got a kind of newsgroup! We've got the best of both worlds. It's just that people need to know the possibilities with this mailinglist at Onelist. Plus, we've got possibilities to search for messages, try that with a newsreader. We've even got chatrooms, announcement possibilities, possibilities to how you want to read your mail, possibilities to post important URLs and storage space. Do you have that with newsgroups? > So please no big threads about it... but I'm always interested in opinions so > feel free to email me privately about it (for example, when new technologies > become available, I'd love to be informed about them so we can keep an eye on > all possible alternatives) Hey, this list(the OT one) is pretty silent. So maybe we can get some of the noise from the LUG over here. Makes things a bit more manageble for those reading the LUG. > > There are currently over 2000 subscribers to the list. > > 2600 to be precise. Yeah, and it will continue to grow. > > Web based list are IMHO the worst. > > Internetsurfing is not free everywhere in the world and things take time > > with the speed that is currently available around the world. > > Correct. Well, with web based lists you need to have the time to go on the web to read them. For people who have a constant online connection it's no problem. But for people who have to dail in it can become quite pricey. Hope we can discuss this and about the 'Nude Platinum Chick' in here, :-), Yoonchi. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ nh http://go.to/yoonchi "Body Paint, Chocolates, & Roses Oh My! http://click.egroups.com/1/1151/3/_/2528/_/950110970/" EGroups.com, Februari 2000. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
