I think what people have been kinda dancing around here is this (f*ck it, i'll say it, and they can come and sue me :-) ) It is *lots, lots, lots* more likely that someone who says they 'threw away' their Logic update is actually one of the people that has obtained a dodgy copy of a Logic updater and doesnt want to pay the full upgrade price to Logic 5. Personally, I doubt that anyone would be that stupid. For a start some (but not all) of the update CDs required either a previous installation of Logic Audio. Also, I dont know anyone who is still running Windows 95 with Logic 4.5. This means that anyone who bought (like me) Logic Audio back in 1996 (i think) and has upgraded each time has also upgraded their OS. Each time their OS is upgraded they need to do a fresh Logic install. This requires (in my case) a copy of Logic V3.0, then V3.5, then V4.0, then V4.5, then V4.8. Maybe one or two less, I dont remember exactly the updates I needed... maybe I didnt need to install V4.5- i could just go from V4.0 to V4.8... I stopped using Logic Windows a while back it all gets hazy.. where is my wheelchair? My point is though that the CD is *often required*. I am not accusing anyone of anything but it doesnt look very likely to me that someone would ever throw it away. Lose maybe... In fact I did lose a Logic CD on the trip over from Australia to England. One of my boxes went missing and I lost several original Logic CD's as well as most of my original sample library, but I had backups and I was able to get the XP installer for my little used Windows version that doesnt require a previous version. If I hadnt bought a new copy of Logic Mac then I might be complaining too. The thing here though is I agree, Jim. I simply cant credit that someone can stand over a bin, after recently having installed Logic Audio and saying 'I better chuck that out, coz I'll never need it again'. Sounds like Bullshit, Smells like bullshit. Until given a more convincing explanation... bullshit it will be, in my mind at least. I'm a little over how much traffic its generated to be honest. Markus (I think it was) has given an option to anyone who has *thrown out* their CD. Lets hope the solution that is offered them includes some sort of stupidity tax. I've reread this email and I know it is sounding a bit on the harsh side but... come on... it is just plain dumb to throw out a CD. Personally even if I did throw out my Logic CD I dont think I'd tell anyone because you'd all think I was a complete pillock. James > > Jim Offerman > > www.jimofferman.nl > www.mp3.com/jimofferman/
