A tube screamer will work. If it's the early Ibanez sound you're looking
for check out the Maxon OD-9. They have the original chips that are
identical to the original Ibanez. Another solution which I like to use
instead of overdrive is a booster pedal. Not the treble booster you use, but
the Fulltone Fatboost. You can get some gentle overdrive out of it without a
huge increase in volume if that's what you want. It also has a tone knob on
it. Even when it's (tone knob) neutral you get more body from your guitar.
One great thing about it is it doesn't add as much color to your signal as
say a tube screamer would. It may not be right for you, but you might want
to investigate it a bit. www.fulltone.com
