I quantize by notes 1/16 etc e.g.

I agree for most types of music, but sometimes you want things to be strictly on
the beat. Personally I play some things and do not quantize them either, even with
trance music. Or I build my own quantisations (which I extract from drumloops
e.g.)

Both, depending on what you prefer. Sometimes I use audio drumloops, sometimes I
trigger the loops from the EXS. I prefer my loops from the EXs because I then have
full control: filters, pitching etc etc..
