I don't don't know about being friends, we don't even know each other
even minimally through email. However, I can understand that his feelings
may have been hurt by some of the facts I was shelling out. Some of those
details were brutal, however, there is no other way to explain the
context of the brutality that followed and put it in its proper
perspective. I'm very sorry to hurt him. My comments were not directed
toward him. I answered him only about the capabilities of the Japanese
military at the end of the war.

However, why the hell are we talking about 1945 in any way being
connected to September 11, 2001? What is the connection? Some seem to say
that the US is such a bad country because look what happened 56 years ago
during a World War that claimed 55 million lives.

I'm all for forgiving Japan, but what about forgiving the United States?
What about discussing relevant facts. Maybe the US did some things which
lead to this disaster such as supporting the Taliban and Israel and the
sanctions in Iraq that affect the common people but not Saddam Hussein.
Those are all possible connections. But is World War II a serious
possibility for being the cause of this recent disaster?

>A while back you were saying how many Japanese friends you had and how well
>you knew Japan and how long you had lived there etc etc etc and how much
>you liked them, etc. And then ... this?

I like the United States too, but I don't like every single thing about
it. There are too many guns in the hands of hoodlums and rightwing
crazies. There are only two political parties that control everything.

There are many things I like about Japan - the honesty, the cleanliness,
the modernity, the efficiency. But I don't a number of things too - such
as the need to conform, the difficulty in discussing matters frankly, the
trade barriers to foreign products, etc.

Isn't that how life always is? Is there anything you like 100%
